Ministry GiftsWhere can my gift be directed? In support of the “Great Commission”, the Districts, congregations, and various organizations of Lutheran Church Canada work together to share the Gospel message of salvation through Christ. Each focuses on their specific area of ministry, with a common understanding of which organization is responsible for each of the other areas of ministry. For the donor wanting to give a gift to a particular initiative, it may not always be so clear which legal, charitable entity has the responsibility or oversight for the initiative. A Gift Coordinator can assist the donor in determining which entity or organization should receive the gift in order that it is used within the ministry area for which it was intended. The following is a brief overview of the various ministry areas.
Local OutreachLLocal Outreach may be undertaken by either a congregation or by one of the District offices, and usually all special initiatives by the District are done in conjunction with the local congregation. If a charitable receipt is wanted, the gift should be directed to the charitable organization which oversees that work, either the congregation or the District. As a general rule, the Districts are responsible for local outreach.
International MissionsThe synodical office, that is, Lutheran Church Canada is responsible for all International Mission work, under the guidance of the Mission Executive. Current projects include various initiatives within Ukraine, Thailand, and Nicaragua: spreading the Gospel and building churches.
Christian EducationChristian Education includes all levels of education, the seminaries of LCC, Concordia University College, all grade levels of Lutheran schools, pre-school and day-care. Gifts can usually be directed to the institution itself, or sometimes the congregation to which the school or day-care belongs.
Media MinistriesMedia Ministries include gifts to Lutheran Laymen’s League – Canada, in support of Lutheran Hour Ministries, or to the Lutheran Association of Missionary Pilots.
Social MinistryThe primary organization involved with social ministry is Canadian Lutheran World Relief (CLWR). CLWR is involved in assisting people throughout the third world countries.
Development FundThe development fund exists if donors would simply like to give an undesignated gift to the Foundation. All funds received in this way by the Foundation are redirected where needed most by Lutheran Foundation Canada’s Board of Directors. |
